Know Your Rights as a Collision Repair Customer in New Jersey

At Route 22 Auto Mall Collision, we believe an informed customer is an empowered customer. New Jersey law protects you when it comes to auto body repairs — and we’re committed to making sure you understand those rights before any work begins.

You Choose Where Your Vehicle is Repaired

Your insurance company may recommend a shop, but the final decision is always yours. You cannot be forced to use a specific repair facility.

Rights to a Written Estimate

Before any work starts, you must receive a clear, itemized written estimate of parts, labor, and cost. If you choose not to receive one, you must sign a waiver.

No Work Without Your Approval

We will never order parts or begin repairs until you've reviewed and approved the estimate and part selection. Any additional work will be discussed ad authorized by you first.

Right to OEM or Quality Aftermarket Parts

We'll explain the difference between Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts, high-quality aftermarket parts, and rebuilt/salvaged parts, and respect your choice.

Repairs Must Meet Safety and Quality Standards

Licensed New Jersey auto body shops must:

  • Maintain proper liability and garage-keepers insurance.

  • Have the equipment to safely raise and support vehicles, perform structural repairs, refinishing, four-wheel alignments, air-conditioning services, and mechanical repairs.

Rights to Ask About Training and Licensing

At least 10% of a shop's staff (or one employee, whichever is greater) must complete recognized collision repair training each year. All shops must be licensed by the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission.

Right to Inspect or Request Replaced Parts

You may inspect or request the return of replaced parts, except for:

  • Parts under warranty that must be returned to the manufacturer.

  • Parts old on an exchange basis.

  • Parts that must be returned for core credit.

Shops are prohibited from:

  • Making false or misleading statements.

  • Charging for work you didn't approve.

  • Charging for parts not actually used.

Our Promise to You

We follow every NJ state requirement, not just because it's the law, but because it's the right thing to do. From your first estimate to the moment, you drive away, we'll keep you informed, respect your decisions, and stand behind our work.
